BA in Agile
Environments - Communicating Agile Project Status to Executives
Presented by David Mantica, VP and General Manager, SoftEd
Agile as a way of working is a fantastic tool for any
business analysis professional, especially when looking at it from a business
agility prospective. Agile as a process, framework and practice can be
frightening for a Business Analyst as several practitioners/evangelists of
agile processes like Scrum and SAFe actively promote the idea that there is no
Business Analyst role in Agile.
The reality is you must look at Agile through three lenses
to get a much better perspective of how Business Analysts and the work of
Business Analysis can thrive, not just survive in Agile.
The first lens is “out of project” work. This is the
activity done to design the future state. This work is critical and
revolves around adaptive leadership and value determination.
The second lens is business agility. Just like the Business
Analyst is the bridge between the technical teams and the user community (aka
business). The BA can also be the bridge to bring business agility into an
organization.
The third lens is BA work done “in project”. What is
the role and activity of the Business Analyst when working on the development
team of an agile team? This is where your collaboration and facilitation skills
take front stage to help define requirements and user stories, among other
activities.
In this presentation we will cover all three lens and
discuss how BA can activity communicate with executives within each lens and
make the position a critical resource not just a member of the team.
