Don’t Just go Through the Motions, Practice Professional Scrum

Presented by Eric Naiburg, COO, Scrum.org

Scrum was originally developed for complex software development projects, but is now being used on almost any type of team-based product work. The framework as defined in the Scrum Guide is a simple yet powerful way to bring order to complexity through learning by providing frequent opportunities for frequent feedback on both how we work and the thing we have and will be working on.

While many people are practicing Scrum, practicing it effectively requires something more than just following the mechanics and fundamentals of the framework. Professional Scrum helps teams get out of that mechanical, going through the motions habit when it comes to Scrum. In this Scrum Pulse webinar, Eric Naiburg, COO, Scrum.org will walk the audience through how Professional Scrum is different and how it requires the Scrum Values, mindset techniques for ways of working and thinking, focusing on outcomes and an environment that supports Professional Scrum including trust.

10 Tips To Facilitate Effective Sprint Reviews

Presented by Ravi Verma, Professional Scrum Trainer

The purpose of the Sprint Review is to inspect the outcome of the Sprint and determine future adaptations. It is an impactful Scrum event that can potentially make or break your organization’s Scrum adoption. However, it might also be one of the most misunderstood and poorly facilitated Scrum Events.

Sometimes, the Sprint Review ends up as an event where Developers demo tons of details that make no sense to stakeholders. At other times, it can become an elaborate, choreographed promotional event to showcase the talent of the Scrum Team. In either case, the responses are usually underwhelming and the Sprint Review results in a waste of golden opportunities for valuable learning and course-correction.

In this webinar, Professional Scrum Trainer Ravi Verma will share some common real-world challenges his clients and students have faced in their Sprint Reviews and ten adjustments that have helped them overcome these challenges. As a bonus, if you submit your most burning question about Sprint Review facilitation, we will try to customize our content to address your needs.

Clarifying the Business Analyst role for the Project Manager

Presented by Trent Leopold, Senior Business Analyst, City of Dallas, Texas

Based on presentations and surveys I have performed with Project Managers over the last several years, I have observed that PMs genuinely lack a full understanding of what the Business Analysis professional does (or can do). This leads to a dilution of both functions on projects, often with more of the effects felt by the BA.

This talk showcases in an educational and interactive fashion the value the BA brings to an organization and provides both the BA and PM a readily available reference to communicate with each other. “Clarifying the BA Role for the PM,” results from my own ongoing dialogue and first-hand experiences with BAs and PMs during recent years, including revealing dialogue resulting from various presentations provided to primarily PM audiences.

During the presentation participants are encouraged to actively engage in meaningful surveys so they can prepare for helpful conversations with their PM colleagues. One random participant will receive a box of chocolates!

Ask a Professional Scrum Trainer: Being Effective in The Coaching Stance

Professional Scrum Trainer Panelists: Stephanie Ockerman, Steve Trapps, Katrin Wellman

There are seemingly countless ways to help agile teams become more effective. At the end of the day though, when it comes to truly unlocking the full potential of an agile team and reaping all the benefits Professional Scrum has to offer, people, teams, and organizations have to embrace new ways of thinking. And if you’re a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or another type of change agent in an organization, it can be challenging to encourage people on their journey to embrace new ways of thinking and working.

Fortunately, we can lean on coaching to aid us in this work. Coaching is a non-directive way of meeting a person where they are on their journey, helping them connect with their existing talent and wisdom, and leading them to find within themselves what it takes to try new things. Additionally, coaching is critical for enabling change and transformation that sticks.

The Scrum.org Ask a Professional Scrum Trainer series features Professional Scrum Trainers (PSTs) in a live session, answering your most pressing questions regarding the challenges and situations your Scrum Teams are facing.

During this interactive Ask a PST session moderated by PST
Summer Lawrence, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers from Professional Scrum Trainers Stephanie OckermanSteve Trapps and Katrin Wellmann, who frequently leverage the coaching stance when working with their clients. Please come prepared with questions!
