Business analysis is a crucial enabler that plays an important part in overcoming these issues and helping organizations strive towards achieving agility. As practitioners we can draw techniques and approaches from the world of systems thinking to help us.

10 Steps to Integrate Evidence-Based Management with Scrum in 60 Days or Less

Presented by Anca Tanase, Magdalena Firlit, Nagesh Sharma and Ravi Verma

Many companies use the steady rhythm of Scrum to make steady improvements in quality or time to market. Over time, they start expanding their focus from optimizing activities to optimizing business outcomes like customer delight, customer retention, revenue, profit, and cash flow. This is when they start gravitating towards outcome-based frameworks like Evidence-Based Management (EBM). However, this is when they seem to run into some common challenges…

1. How to integrate outcome-based frameworks like EBM into Scrum principles, values, roles, events and artifacts?

2. How to create a starter set of steps to convert the theory of EBM into concrete actions?

3. How to integrate these steps into the pressure and rhythm of Scrum time-boxes to shorten the learning loop?

In this webinar moderated by PST Ravi Verma with Anca Tanase, PST Magdalena Firlit and PST Nagesh Sharma, they will propose one possible approach that evidence based Agile organizations can take to overcome these challenges. They will propose 10 steps that can be followed in 60 days or less to integrate EBM with Scrum.

Using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) in Scrum

Presented by Ralph Jocham

Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) act as goal-setting framework for defining and tracking objectives and their outcomes. OKRs are often misunderstood and are a powerful practice to create razor sharp organizational focus. Isn’t Scrum about goals and focus as well? There is the Vision, the Product Goal, the Sprint Goal as well as the Sprint Review.
These elements of Scrum can be very well combined with OKRs. Actually, you might want to turn it around, start with OKRs and map your Scrum implementation to them. In this Scrum Pulse webinar Professional Scrum Trainer
Ralph Jocham with Agile Actors #learning will give a quick intro to OKRs, and you then you will learn how Scrum can benefit from using OKRs to create a network of responsibility from the vision down to individual Sprint Goals. This responsibility network offers a transparency most corporations long for.

Making Data POP! Telling Better Stories with Numbers

Presented by Lavina Wiebe, Business Analyst

Data visualization is the graphical representation of information and large data sets. By using visual elements like charts, graphs, maps, and other visuals data visualization makes it easier to identify, understand and share real-time trends, outliers, and patterns in data.

Our eyes are drawn to colors and patterns. We can quickly identify red from blue, square from circle. Our culture is visual, including everything from art and advertisements to TV and movies. Data visualization is another form of visual art that grabs our interest and keeps our eyes on the message. Data visualization helps to tell stories by curating data into a form easier to understand, highlighting the trends and outliers. A good visualization tells a story, removing the noise from data and highlighting the useful information. Find the story hidden in your data. Data visualization is important to see what’s happening, why, and what to do next.

Join Lavina Wiebe as she discusses how to make your data POP! and tell better stories using data to your senior management team. This allows the Business Analyst and Data Analyst to use data to support more informed decision making.

Which Agile Technique Should I Use?

Presented by Stephanie Hawkins, MSIA, CISA

Agile business analysis practitioners apply their experience and judgment in determining which agile techniques are appropriate to a given context and when to use a technique. A technique is a manner, method, or style for conducting a business analysis task or for shaping its output, according to the BABOK® v3 Guide Glossary

In this presentation, we will explore a variety of techniques in the "Agile Extension to BABOK® Guide V2" and which technique might be useful in a given context.

By participating in this discussion, you will learn technique as it relates to:

What are the three Agile planning horizons
    * How to relate contexts to techniques
    * What techniques work well for internal teams
    * What techniques work well with stakeholders external to the team

This presentation will be in American English.

Experiencing Agile Through Play

Presented by Alison (Ali) Orr Cox LEGO® Serious Play® Method Facilitator, ICAgile-Agile Coach, CBAP, AAC, PMP, PBA, SAFe Agilist, CSM, TKP, MBA, Management 3.0, ICAgile ICP

I am often asked why team members should do things like limit their WIP, or meet every day, or do retrospectives. The truth is that the Agile approach and its related practices can be hard to fully understand and embrace unless you experience them personally. For some, the first time they apply Agile is in the midst of their organization’s Agile Transformation efforts, which can be overwhelming and cause people to fall back on “the way we’ve always done it.”

I have found that when people step outside of the context of their work and instead walk through a high-level, fun simulation of Agile, it allows them to more fully grasp not only the concepts but also why the concepts are important. We use gamification because we believe games help a team experience new processes in a fun, supportive environment that enables them to understand key points in a relevant, clear, and memorable way through the 'serious play'.

From Project to Product: “Big Rock” Constraints and How to Overcome Them

Presented by Anne Steiner, Vice President, Product and Technology, Cprime

Project-based thinking and process is often the largest inhibitor of achieving agility. It explains why the notion of ‘Project to Product' has gained such popularity to the point of becoming a buzzword in recent years.

Despite the enthusiasm about becoming a product-driven organization, many companies still hang onto their old project-based ways due to some “big rock” constraints, including funding and separation of IT and business.

So, what can you do to make a successful shift?

Join Anne Steiner, Cprime’s VP of Product & Technology, to explore the challenges you may face in your
product agility journey and how to overcome them. We’ll explore:

    • Common constraints you may encounter when shifting from project to product and how to address them

    • How to shift to product-based funding models

    • The role of the product manager

    • Benefits you’ll experience with true product agility

Lean Portfolio Strategy Part 3: Epic Management - Take the Exits

Presented by Michiko Quinones and Jean Dahl

Organizations might have set up all the process steps for portfolio flow: the monthly strategic portfolio review, the portfolio kanban, even the lean business case. But, they are still not getting the idea that small, testable, constantly evaluated initiatives are what really increase your output of value to the customer and put you way ahead of the competition.

In
part 1 of this webinar we explored how signs of imitation LPM show up in an organization’s approach to strategy. In part 2, we covered how to organize around value streams with examples of successful LPM.

Now, in this third webinar in our Lean Portfolio Management series we’ll join Cprime's Michiko Quinones (Jira Align Consultant) and Jean Dahl (General Manager, Scaled Agility) to learn techniques to:

    • Question performing work that doesn't clearly align to your organization's strategy

    •         Develop a process that makes things smaller and testable when it comes to initiative creation and management

    • Build a culture that allows work to stop if it's not going to meet its intended purpose

    • Make sure that you are "thinking lean," rather than just "doing lean"
