What is likeonomics and how
does it connect to your Career Success
Presented by David Mantica, President at ASPE Training
Yes there is such a thing on
Likeonomics. Author Rohit Bhargava wrote the definitive book on how being
likeable drives business and personal success. But what the heck does that
mean? Let’s start with this, would you rather work with a competent jerk or a
loveable fool? At some point the competent jerk will end up being too much to
deal with and will negatively impact productivity and morale. And in the end,
you will continue to overlook the loveable fool’s weak points and utilizes them
as best you can.
The key thought is to be both competent
and likeable. How does someone do this? Well there are some very simple and
easy tactics to do this. The first question to ask yourself is what makes
someone likeable in your eyes? What do they do? What habits do they have? How
do they interact with you? The answers to these questions will quickly give you
a picture of how you can become more likeable.

Effectively Managing Scope
Creep and Requirements Changes
Presented by The Solarity Group
This session will discuss how to manage scope creep and
requirements changes effectively, and provide your team with the information
they most critically need.
During the brainstormers’ debriefing, they agreed that it
wasn’t the scope creep itself that caused the greatest impact to the project’s
outcome, but rather it was the management of that creep and the changing
requirements (or the lack thereof) that either propelled or doomed the project
to its “fabulous” or “terrible” end result.
Point your project toward “fabulous” and achieve your
desired end-result! Learn to help your stakeholders avoid or minimize the
“spin” and conflict that comes from confusion or disagreement on requirements,
including goals, priorities or approaches to the solution. Instead, manage
change and ensure your stakeholders have the clarity they need to be as
collaborative, productive – and as “fabulous” – as possible.
Objectives
·
Tips to gain a shared understanding of scope at all levels
(portfolio, program, project, solution)
·
How to recognize changes (as opposed to design option
approaches or decisions)
·
How to discuss changes in scope and highlight the impacts

Business-IT Alignment: Driving Business Outcomes
Presented by Adam McCllelan
Business and IT alignment is not a
one-and-done thing. On the contrary, business strategies and goals continually
evolve and cascade down to more specific needs throughout the enterprise
— including IT.
To stay aligned with the business, the
IT side of the house should consistently ensure that it and the business both
understand what outcomes are desired in strategic, tactical, and operational
contexts. At the same time, IT should build up the disciplines required to
enable — and ultimately track — those outcomes.
Outline
·
Introduction: why is alignment a
pressing need?
·
What do we mean by business
outcomes?
·
What does the business want?
·
Why doesn't the business know
what it wants?
·
What does effective IT enablement
look like?
·
How and why do you track
outcomes?
·
What is the path forward?

Overcoming Bias: How Leaders
Can Build Authentic Relationships Across Differences
Presented by Tiffany Jana and Matthew Freeman, TMI
Consulting, Inc.
Everybody's biased—even nice people like you. We all harbor
unconscious assumptions about people who are different from us that get in the
way of our good intentions and keep us from working together harmoniously and
effectively.
So in an increasingly diverse and globalized world, what
does respecting difference actually require?
Join bias experts (and biracial couple) Tiffany Jana and
Matthew Freeman for an hour-long webcast where you will learn how to identify
your personal points of privilege, make genuine connections with people who
aren’t like you, and figure out how to break down social barriers across a
spectrum of differences (race, religion, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation,
and more).
Tiffany and Matthew will discuss hidden biases and show how
they arise from our histories and cloud our perceptions.
What You Will
Learn
Tiffany and Matthew will use vivid and fun (yes, fun!)
stories to help you become open to encountering people, cultures, and ideas
outside our usual comfort zone. Make sure to tune in!

How to Elaborate
Requirements Through Use Cases and User Stories
Presented by Dr. Martin Schedlbauer, Ph.D., CBAP, OCUP,
Senior Trainer and Consultant
Use cases and user stories are both
excellent techniques for understanding what a user needs from a product. While
both have a similar purpose, use cases and user stories are not meant to be
used interchangeably. That is why it’s important for a business analyst to
understand the difference.
The older of the two techniques is the use case, which captures usage
scenarios. In other words, a use case documents how an individual uses a
product to accomplish something of value. This technique works well for projects
where functional requirements and usage scenarios must be – and can be –
specified upfront. However, what if you can't know the requirements upfront?
In a user story, the user and what they need the product to accomplish is also
specified, but in contrast to use cases, at a much higher level.
Recognizing which technique is best suited to your situation is the key.
Learning objectives include:
·
Determine when to apply use cases
and user stories to define stakeholder requirements.
·
Elaborate use cases through
scenarios.
·
Augment use cases and user
stories with diagrams and visuals for better communication

The Business Analyst
Catalyst: The Role of the BA in Today's Business World
Presented by Mike Zambruski, MBA, PMP, CBAP, Senior
Instructor at TwentyEighty Strategy Execution
An effective organizational strategy should harden the
intention behind mission and vision into goals that define the future direction—a
direction that must reflect clear context, defined boundaries, and precise
capabilities in order for programs and projects to reach intended targets with
optimal success.
Business analysis transforms those aspirations into
actionable scope by capturing, refining, confirming, and prioritizing the needs
to be fulfilled. Only then is project management ideally positioned to achieve
the reality envisioned by the strategy.
This means that successfully developing and implementing
strategy requires a true partnership between the executives who define it and
the business analysts and program and project managers who carry it out. All
parties need to understand each other’s perspectives, challenges, and roles,
and then regularly interact with each other to confirm alignment, efficiency,
and feasibility. Eliminating any part of this undermines that partnership and
the mutual clarity of purpose that it promotes.
This webinar defines a concept labeled “the enterprise triple constraint” as
the integration of strategy, analysis, and implementation. Without professional
business analysis as the catalyst between dreams and reality, projects become
exploratory initiatives burdened with avoidable cost, delay, and risk of
failure.
Participants will leave this webinar with practical techniques for both
communicating and applying the concepts presented, all based on actual
experience and real results.
Learning
Objectives:
·
Learn how business analysts can leverage their role as the
custodians and implementers of strategy
·

implementation optimizes organizational success

Your Brain and Business:
Learn How they don’t Fit and what you can do about it
Presented by David Mantica, President at ASPE Training
Our brains have not evolved to match
the needs of white color business environments. In many cases the natural
reaction your brain has to issues in business are the complete opposite of what
you should or need to do. Aside from this, no one trains or teaches on this
subject. We brush it under the rug and just assume we will adapt or worse yet,
assume it really isn’t a problem.
The reality is that this problem is an
epidemic and shows up in the staggering increases in stress related illness and
death and the exceedingly high level of disengaged workers. It is staggering to
see the number of business professionals who don’t even know what self-talk is
and the dangerous effects it may cause if left unchecked.
This web seminar will get into the very
heart of brain dysfunction when tied to business interaction. The areas that
will be covered included:
·
The physiology of emotional
intelligence
·
Affective forecasting and its
impact on decision making
·
Cognitive biases and its impact
on day to day business interaction
·
Neuroplasticity and change
management: How hard it is to change?
·
Your lazy brain: How stereotypes
and decision patterns are developed
·
Self-talk and stress
Within all these topics we will discuss techniques you can
use to help you work around the innate limitations your brain causes. If we let
our brains act instinctually against the business challenges we face each day,
we limit our productivity and career growth.

Business Analysts are supposed to be inquisitive and detail-oriented.
Business Analysts are supposed to ask questions that make people

our own worst enemy. We walk a tightrope between getting to the heart of
the issue and alienating the people we are trying to help. Instead of giving up

How Prioritizing Purpose Improves
Organizational Performance
Presented by Brian Chossek, ASPE Training
According to Harvard Business Review, Purpose prioritizing
organizations outperform their peers on 7 out of 8 categories. The measurable
value of Purpose to individuals is just as remarkable: longer lives, enhanced
performance, greater value-add to the organization, increased happiness and
satisfaction, reduced stress levels, increased creativity and innovation, among
others.
In a world where initiative overload, data and communication inundation,
competitive pressures and a focus on bottom line performance increase stress
and impede productivity, the 3As, Articulation, Alignment behind and Activation
of Purpose can make the difference between organizational, business unit, change
initiative or process improvement success.
In this session you’ll:
·
Be introduced to the indisputable evidence supporting a
purpose-driven approach
·
Understand Why a Purpose-driven approach inspires and holds
much higher likelihood of achieving your goals
·
Gain exposure on how to use the 5 Whys to find individual,
initiative or organizational Purpose
·
Learn how to communicate from the inside out in order to
gain alignment and support for you and your efforts
