How to Respond When There is Resistance to Agile Ways of Working

Presented by Ravi Verma and Tony Lee, Professional Scrum Trainers

You have probably heard the conventional wisdom that human beings are hard-wired to resist change. And so, whenever someone introduces a change to our life, our default auto-response is to resist, because we project all our worst fears onto the change, before we even consider the merits of the change. Scrum Masters, Scrum Coaches and Scrum Evangelists probably know this resistance better than most. They find themselves getting stuck in a fight, flight or freeze response in the face of resistance. In this Scrum Pulse webcast, PSTs Ravi Verma and Tony Lee will share a simple, 9 step approach that they have started using to integrate the Co-Active coaching model into navigating resistance to Agile principles, values and practices. Ravi and Tony will share how they started using this approach while guiding organizations through their Agile adoption, and achieving dramatically better results. Attendees will also learn about some resources they can use to continue learning.

Giving High Impact Feedback

Presented by Christa Kirby, Vice President, Talent Development, Corporate Education Group

The foundation of all effective feedback is this: the intent to improve performance. Without this intention behind it, feedback can fall flat, becoming a missed opportunity for both growth and connection. Transformative change cannot happen without feedback, so it is important to create the conditions where the receiver can take it in, reflect on it, and learn from it.

In this interactive webinar, we will explore:

    Key components of high-impact feedback

The critical connection between feedback and employee engagement

    A neuroscience perspective on feedback

Emotions as the gatekeepers to rational thought

Concrete ways to de-escalate emotion and refocus a feedback conversation

Unleash the Potential of Team Capacity Planning

Presented by Todd Duchaine

Are you tired of your team feeling overwhelmed and constantly struggling to meet deadlines? Do you wish there was a way to optimize your team's productivity and ensure they're working on the right things at the right time?

Join our webinar presented by Agile Coach Todd Duchaine on Team Capacity Planning. We will dive deep into the art and science of team capacity planning, unveiling a new formula that will revolutionize the way you allocate resources. Gone are the days of guessing how many hours your team should work. Instead, you'll discover a proven methodology to determine their optimal capacity.

One common pitfall many teams face is a lack of visibility into their time allocation. Todd has observed this firsthand in the numerous teams he has worked with. In this webinar, he'll shed light on how teams often overlook where they're truly spending their time, be it on feature work, production fixes, or essential refactoring tasks. Understanding the true breakdown of your team's efforts is crucial for maximizing efficiency and ensuring sustainable growth.

Todd will challenge you to think beyond the immediate demands of urgent tasks. By introducing a capacity allocation policy, you can proactively define how you want your team to invest their time. Imagine having a clear guideline that designates, for example, 65% to 70% of capacity for feature work, 20% to 25% for production fixes, and a dedicated portion for essential refactoring. This deliberate balance ensures that your team focuses on what matters most and avoids being overwhelmed by the constant influx of urgent requests.

Say goodbye to the tyranny of the urgent! Learn how to establish a capacity allocation policy that empowers your team to make informed decisions and prioritize their work effectively.

Todd will walk you through practical strategies to implement this policy, empowering you to maintain a healthy application while still delivering value through feature development.

Don't miss this golden opportunity to tap into the expertise of a seasoned Agile coach. Join us for this game-changing webinar on Team Capacity Planning and equip yourself with the knowledge and tools you need to drive your team towards success.

Register now and be prepared to revolutionize your team's productivity through effective capacity planning.

Podcast: The Agile Business Analyst Role

Presented by Traci Onkst, Agile and Business Analysis Leader, Podcast Host: David Mantica, SoftEd

The early proponents of Agile and Scrum would tell you that there is no Business Analyst role in agile/scrum. Even today, agile enthusiasts will promote this concept. We propose a different viewpoint. There is a role for the business analyst in agile/scrum; a very crucial role in fact.

There are those that will tell you that there are no roles for QA Tester, Architect, Project Manager in agile/scrum. We feel that there are.

The Scrum Guide™ states that the development team must have all the skills and knowledge needed to deliver the product. It does NOT state that every member of the development team has to have the skills and knowledge to deliver the product. That would be saying that every member has to know how to code. We feel that this idea is wrong. It is called the delivery team, not the development team in the Agile Extension to the BABOK® Guide. If you lose the specialized skills in business analysis, testing, architecture, project management, and more; then your team’s work products will not be as good as teams with these specialized skills.

Other proponents would tell you that you must become a product owner or scrum master to work in an agile environment. We feel that the business analyst provides a critical support role to both of these roles and the entire delivery team.

Are you open to discussion? Come discuss this topic with us in our podcast style presentation on The Agile Business Analysis Role; even if your opinion is different than ours. This will be a highly interactive, audience participation discussion on this important topic in today’s workplace.

Key Takeaways for the audience:

What is the Agile Business Analyst role?

How does the Agile Business Analyst support the agile team?

Should you have both an Agile Analyst and Product Owner on your agile team?

What is the impact of removing business analysis from your agile teams?
