The Effective BA - Going from Good to Great! Building the Foundation For Change

Building Practical Learning and Development Frameworks for Real World Performance: Strategies for Success
Presented by Betsey Frank, Sanford Gold, and Nicholas Igneri

Are you and your Learning & Development team more:

·         Reactive?  Like Firefighters, you react to employee performance problems by providing immediate L&D solutions to whatever needs arise

OR

·         Proactive?  Like Fire Prevention Architects, who have designed an L&D framework to proactively provide employee development programs—aligned with corporate strategies—in all key areas

One size does not—should not—fit all.

Rather, a learning framework can serve multiple employee development needs. Or, you may need several variations of a framework to meet varying needs in different areas of your organization.

What You Will Learn

·         You will learn how three award-winning companies have built learning frameworks and related models to meet diverse talent needs and challenges.
·         Review the elements of a comprehensive framework to ensure your L&D programs support corporate goals and focus on your specific requirements whether they be:
o   Broad talent development throughout your organization,
o   Functional skill improvement within a cohort, and/or
o   Cultural or behavior change starting with the “C Suite”
·         No matter how many goals or pathways you may need to take for achieving them, you will also learn proven strategies for identifying and embedding your organization’s core values and philosophies into your frameworks for developing employee performance.

Case Study: Vasa Warship Project
Presented by Cheryl Hill, PMP, Requirements Experts

The Vasa was a Swedish warship that was built over a period

of four years, 1625 – 1628…it sank on its maiden voyage sailing all of 1300 meters before being toppled by a small gust of wind.  Sadly, the factors that lead to the Vasa project failure are many of the same factors that challenge the projects of today.

In the 60-minute webinar, we introduce you to the Vasa warship project.  We will discuss the actions and decisions made by the Executive Sponsor (Sweden’s King Gustav II) and project management that lead to the project’s ultimate “failure”.  We will draw parallels to today’s project challenges and explore what you can do on you own projects to avoid making the same mistakes.  "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".  George Santayana

Learning Objectives:

·         Understand the factors that lead to project challenges and failure
·         Learn what you can do during scope and requirements phases of the project so that you can help your project teams navigate the challenges typically encountered on projects and better position your projects for success

How Can Emotional Intelligence Make Me a Better Business Analyst?
Presented by Terrell Smith, MPA, PMP, CBAP, Senior Trainer, Corporate Education Group

Business Analysis, like most professions is fraught with moments of uncertainty, anxiety, fear and all sorts of emotions, both positive and negative. We often have to deal with stakeholders who at one point or the other express feelings of project-related frustration based upon unmet requirements. The ability to manage one's emotions and that of others is necessary to become a mature Business Analyst (BA). This webinar will detail how we can become more emotionally mature and grow our skillsets as a BA.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is about identifying and understanding our own and other people's emotions with the objective of channeling these emotions towards a positive outcome. A BA with high emotional intelligence is able to decipher their emotions as well as that of others to help form healthy working relationships; allowing the successful identification of project requirements.

This webinar will focus on the key intersection of EI and BA, and how EI can be applied to become a great BA. Topics will include the following:

·         What is EI and how does it compare to IQ?

·         Emotional IQ and the BA
·         The four key components to EI
·         Incorporating EI into your personal development plan
·         Moving from a good BA to a great one through improved EI

Make Lemonade out of Lemons: Dealing with Difficult Employees
Presented by Casey Mitchell, Trainer and Consultant, Corporate Education Group

It’s no secret that difficult employees can negatively impact other team members, productivity and projects. It’s also no secret that many managers struggle to deal with the problem effectively. Often, the difficult person is ignored in hopes that the situation will somehow resolve itself. The problem never goes away on its own, of course. Successful managers address these kinds of situations before they become a distraction … or worse, a full-blown crisis. They recognize the symptoms of difficult behavior, seek to understand the motives and attitudes of the employee, and work with the person to clarify expectations and move toward a resolution. When the situation is addressed properly, a difficult employee can be transformed into a positive influence. As the saying goes, "What do you do with a bowl full of lemons? Make lemonade!"

This webinar will help you:

·         Go beyond your initial judgment and understand why someone is being "difficult"
·         Gain a clear perspective of the problem
·         Use a non-confrontational and problem-solving approach to the situation
·         Work with the employee to resolve the issue.

Role of the BA in User Acceptance Testing
Presented by Alan Koch, ASPE Training

The Business Analyst (BA) role is focused on understanding what the business needs and ensuring that our projects deliver on those needs. And while the solution requirements are a natural outcome of the BA's work, that "front-end" work is only the beginning of the ways the BA can ensure that our projects deliver business value. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) provides an important check to be sure that the business needs have been fully and correctly met, and that they have been met in a way that is acceptable to the business and the users. Participation in UAT provides the BA with a significant opportunity to ensure that the solution provides precisely what the business needs.

In this webinar, we will explore the ways in which a BA can participate in UAT in order to ensure value delivery.
