Requirements: The Old Way and The New Way
Presented by John Parker, CEO of Enfocus Solutions

The vast majority of organizations are using archaic methods to develop requirements based on methods from the 1970s and early 1980s.  With the dynamic pace of business change, organizations that continue to use these practices have continued to see a significant amount of challenged and failed projects and have placed their organizations at a competitive disadvantage. In fact, even with the recent emphasis on project management practices and certification, Standish Group research shows that there are more failed and challenged projects than there was in their original 1994 report when waterfall and traditional requirement practices are used.

Requirements Reuse: Fantasy or Feasible?
Presented by Karl Wiegers, Process Impact   @KarlWiegers

Reuse is an eternal goal for organizations seeking higher software capability. Reusing requirements can increase productivity, improve quality, and lead to greater consistency between related systems. But effective reuse is hard! This presentation, based on the recent book Software Requirements, 3rd Edition by Karl Wiegers and Joy Beatty, offers numerous suggestions about how to perform requirements reuse. It describes several kinds of requirements reuse, identifies some classes of requirements information that have reuse potential in various contexts, and presents some issues around making requirements reusable. The presentation concludes by identifying both barriers to effective reuse and success factors that can help your organization leverage its existing body of requirements knowledge.

Leaders often proceed under the mistaken belief that as organizational or technical experts, they can simply think their way through difficult problems. The Critical Thinking Skills course is focused on providing practitioners with both the whys and hows of proper analytical techniques. It provides a detailed presentation of the ways in which practitioners may consider alternatives and challenge assumptions, all the while illustrating how evidence-based techniques can greatly improve judgmental forecasting and decision making in any type of organization.

My Job Title is Not Business Analyst, But Am I One?

I am often amazed in conversations with others when they think that business analysis only covers the business systems analyst role that works on information technology projects to deliver software solutions to the business.  Business analysis is a whole lot more than that one role.  It is a range of business services to drive better business outcomes.  Read more about what I mean when I say:

"IT Business Analyst is to Business Analysis
                                                                                                            As

                                                                                                Scrum is to Agile"

The Dynamics of Scope Management and the Changing Responsibilities of Project Managers and Business Analysts
Presented by David Mantica, President of ASPE Training

Speed…If you had to summarize in one word what you need to succeed in business in today's current market and climate, it would be that word. Laggards are treated harshly, just ask anyone who works or worked at Research in Motion (RIM). Once the darling of mobile communications, RIM is now fighting for its very survival. Software development has become the foundation on which new business services and products are built. Whether you are selling financial services, global logistics, energy, or cars, it is software that is adding either capability or value to your product that increases your competitive advantage and drives sales.

Why “Beauty and Brains” Matter for CRM
Presented by Evan Quinn, EMA Analyst and Jamie Anderson, VP CRM Products at SAP
As sales reps increasingly focus on getting ahead of the digital customer, sales organizations will shop for "beauty and brains" when it comes to CRM software. These next generation solutions break free from legacy cloud and on-premises software and focus more on social, mobile, and analytics, as well as ways to deliver a new, elegant user experience. Since mobility is the biggest driver of sales effectiveness, sales teams also need solutions that put the office in their pocket in order to help them accelerate sales cycles while on the road.

Organizational Change Webinar: Innovation is Not for Lone Rangers
Presented by Doug Jackson, Robbins Gioia and Paula Pierce, Peridona Strategies LLC

A Wall Street Journal article postulates that innovation comes from inside a company through networks—not lone individuals. The authors offers strategies to cultivate innovation, such as making efforts to break down the walls between company departments, rapidly testing and refining ideas, and figure out whether there are people in the chain of command who are hard to work with. But for most large organizations, this “formula” for innovation is difficult to implement. Change, especially innovative change, is often is met with organizational resistance. Conversely, the culture of the organization often expresses collective frustrations with the limitations of business processes and underlying technologies to support business needs.

No Time Like the Present: The Case for Streaming Analytics

Presented by Robert Benefield of Evolve Beyond, Ben Kepes of Diversity Analysis, and Chris Haddad of WS02
Capturing information from cars, planes, wind turbines, social media, business and IT systems, and any other kind of data source in a cost-effective manner was made possible with Hadoop. This was a huge break through, but it turns out that performing analysis on the data stored in Hadoop can deliver stale facts and trailing guidance. For certain use cases, such as real time network usage for telecom providers, security surveillance systems, or fraud detection for credit card companies, there is a requirement for real-time data analysis as the information streams over the wire.

Business Analysis is a Process not a Role
Presented by John Parker, CEO of Enfocus Solutions

Many organizations simply view business analysis as requirements development and management, however this view is vastly different from what is expressed in IIBA’s Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK).  The BABOK defines a Business Analyst as “Any person who performs business analysis activities, no matter what their job title or organizational role may be.”  The BABOK goes further and says that Business Analysts do not just have the title Business or System Analysts they may also be perform related roles such as Project Management, Developers, Quality Assurance and Interaction Design.  This broad role of business analysis makes it appear more of a process than a role.
