From Project to Product: The Need for Speed

Presented by Anne Steiner and Jeff Sussna, Cprime

As we look to enhance our ways of working and shift from project-based methodologies to product thinking, it's easy to overlook the technical aspects of this change. Let's not make that mistake.

In this webinar, Jeff Sussna, Director of Technical Agility at Cprime, and Anne Steiner, Chief Product Coach, delve into the technical aspects of switching from project to product. What does this mean for our engineers, testers, and product teams? Equally important, what does this mean to the health, resilience, and maneuverability of our codebases and environments?

We'll approach these topics across the following dimensions:

Development - new product development as well as maintenance and enhancements

    Testing

    Delivery Lifecycle

Lastly, we'll bring it all together to illustrate how engineering for speed + quality and the concept of "total product ownership" reduces time to market, enhances product quality, and fuels maneuverability.

Business Analytics Series: Visualizing data in context for a theme park

Presented by Scott A. Helmers

The key to successful data visualization is context. A collection of charts and graphs on a BI dashboard are great, but without context you’re likely to miss key insights. For example, the red bars on a hospital’s
environmental monitoring dashboard may alert you that a problem exists, but when you can click the red bars and see the exact location of the problem on a floor plan, you can formulate an immediate
response. Similarly, when a dashboard includes a network diagram that shows real-time server status and you can click a failed server to see the data required to initiate a fix, you’re two steps ahead.

How do you achieve this level of insight? There’s no better way to add context than to enhance Power BI reports with floor plans, network diagrams, process maps, or org charts created in Visio. This session
features a case study and multiple live demos of Visio/Power BI integration from an ongoing project. The customer’s goal was to provide frontline workers using Microsoft Teams with easy access to visualizations in Power BI. You may not manage theme parks for a living, but you and your colleagues probably do need to visualize data more effectively.

Key takeaways:
    • A Visio diagram viewed in a web browser can be a powerful data visualization tool
    • Power BI reports can provide visible context for data by using the Visio Visual
    • Filters and bookmarks can add sophisticated navigation to Power BI reports

Crisis Mode: How to help yourself (and others) in moments of crisis and uncertainty

Presented by International Institute of Business Analysis

Everyone encounters situations of crisis, uncertainty, or which just make us anxious or afraid. Knowing yourself, knowing what makes you feel threatened, and how to function, manage, and mitigate in the worst of those moments is the mark of maturity as well as what can identify a senior practitioner.

In this session we’ll discuss the physical and mental reactions all people have to being in these “fight or flight'' situations, also called “being under threat”. In humanity’s past these situations were obvious - we see a lion, a bear, a snake, and that part of our brain takes over as an asset to us. Selected mental and physical reactions take over, enhancing survival focus and chemically charging our bodies for activity.

However…when that threat isn’t a lion, but a layoff; not a cobra but a conflict; not a famine but a failure, our biological threat reaction doesn’t serve us as well.

Learning how to manage yourself when threats occur - a major crisis as well as routine daily work - are equally important. This skill transfers directly to your life outside your job, as perceived threats don't start or stop at the office door.

Join us for this session about understanding the threat reaction, how to manage the harder aspects of it in modern life, and using these skills to help yourself and others weather the storms we all encounter.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Understand what constitutes “threat” to the mind.

2. Understand the process that occurs upon encountering a threat, what it enhances and what it inhibits.

3. Understand and be able to begin to employ techniques which allow you to mitigate, manage, and function within threat environments. Be able to introduce others to the same techniques.

Critical Success Factors for Business Analysts

Presented by Steve Blais, PMP, Author, Trainer, Coach

One of the ongoing questions in the business analyst profession from those who manage business analysts to the business analysts themselves is “how do we measure business analysts?”

Since much of the success that business analysts achieve is based, in good part, on the work that others perform (as are the business analyst failures) it is difficult to carve out specific metrics that the business analyst (or the business analyst’s manager) can point to which support their claim to success or not. But there may be some critical success factors in the profession that determine whether a business analyst is performing successfully, with excellence, or just adequately. Or worse...

This webinar discusses the problems of business analyst metrics and how business analysts are typically measured in terms of their overall success.

WHEN WILL YOU BE DONE? How to Answer in an Agile Framework! with Ryland Leyton, CBAP

Presented by Ryland Leyton, CBAP

Answering “when will you be done?” to people outside the team – like the C-suite, directors, and managers – is often a challenge for teams focused on building software. Speaking to this group in a way comprehensible for an elevator or a hallway is a core competency for any agilist who wants to retain freedom and funding! This session takes a brief walk through the concept of velocity, explains the “cone of uncertainty”, burn-up and burn-down charts, and then shows you how to provide a ready and truthful answer about when you’ll be done.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Understand the concept of velocity as used in common agile situations.

Understand what causes velocity to increase and decrease on teams.

Understand how to estimate large chunks of work to obtain useful range answers and project valid “finishing” answers for your stakeholders.

Leading with Agility

In the ever-evolving landscape of business, Agile has been seeping into organizations across a broad range of industries. The agile way of working isn't exclusive to tech companies or software development anymore; it is reshaping functions such as finance, marketing, human resources, and product management.

Fundamentally, Agile is about leadership - but not as traditionally understood. The command-and-control leadership paradigm disrupts the Agile process, especially when it comes to Business Agility.

Join us for this insightful webinar as we delve deep into the role of leadership in Agile, primarily focusing on self-leadership and self-management - the cornerstones of any Agile work structure. The discussion will be framed around the pioneering work ICAgile has done with their new certification offering, "Leading with Agility".

This session serves as an introduction to the transformation required to embrace and excel in Business Agility. We'll spotlight the core element that drives innovation and accelerates learning.

You will learn:

Comprehend the dynamics of Power and Influence

Discover the Leadership Styles conducive to Agile

Unearth the significance of Emotional Intelligence; particularly self-awareness and self-management

From Project to Product: Leaders, Here's What It Means to You

Presented by Anne Steiner, Chief Product Coach, Cprime

Project to product is all the rage these days. You, your boss, or your company are already talking about this. Heck, your group has been "agile" for years now, but this next phase seems to just be a repackaging of that.

In this webinar, Anne Steiner, Chief Product Coach at Cprime, will get into Project to Product from the leader's perspective. We'll explore "why we should care" and "what this really means". Then, we'll deep dive into the following keys to leadership success in driving this change:

Your help, involvement, and willingness to influence change is critical. Team-level change isn't enough and will yield limited benefits.

You need more than just engineering/IT buy-in to be successful. It takes the whole enterprise.

Product management is a thing. We'll learn what it is, how it is different from project management, and why it is critical to market domination and product success.

Lastly, we'll leave you with some tips for success that will guide you in driving change whether you sit at the manager, director, VP, or C-level.

Essential Requirements Practices with Karl Wiegers

Presented by Karl Wiegers, Principal Consultant, Process Impact

Many big books on software requirements and business analysis recommend dozens and dozens of practices. They’re all useful in appropriate situations, but it’s daunting to try to remember—let alone implement—the whole set consistently. However, every project should perform 20 core requirements activities. These lay a solid foundation for success and help teams efficiently and effectively elicit, analyze, specify, validate, and manage their requirements. These practices are valuable for both traditional and agile projects, regardless of the kind of product you’re building.

This presentation identifies those 20 core practices and drills down into several of them. They can help project and product teams understand the business problem, engage the right participants, articulate effective solutions, communicate information among stakeholders, implement the right functionality in the right sequence, and adapt to change. Do you have to perform all 20 of these on your project? Maybe not, but you’ll feel less pain and get better results if you do.

Learning Objectives

Identify the 20 practices that contribute most heavily to business analysis success

Understand how to apply certain of those practices on both agile and traditional projects

Enable you to begin a self-assessment of how to improve your team’s requirements practices

Business Analytics Series: Choosing a Representative Group of People for a Survey

Presented by Dr. Mark Griffin, Founding Director, Insight Research Services Associated

Within any survey we are interested in what the data says about a population (or community) of respondents. To obtain accurate results we need to hear from a representative group of people from that population, if we only really talk to one demographic within that population, we will obtain biased results. As an extreme example of this you can imagine going to a Coke factory and asking the staff whether they enjoying drinking Coke, and then going next door to the Pepsi factory and asking the staff there whether they enjoy drinking Coke. Are staff going to be answering the question in the same way (particularly if they know that their employers are listening to their responses). To address these issues, we ideally need to make sure that the people completing our survey have the same diversity as the people in our population of interest. While this is the ideal, this kind of bias might be reduced through a mathematical process during the data analysis called weighting.

Within this webinar we will explore the following topics:

    • What is representativeness?

    • What is the difference between the target population (the population we want to understand) and the sampling frame (the population that we can include in our survey)?

    • How do we choose a representative sample from the sampling frame (with mathematical techniques such as stratified sampling and cluster sampling)?

    • How can weighting be used to minimize potential bias during the data analysis? Surveys and

Questionnaires are discussed in Section 3.17 of the IIBA Guide to Business Data Analytics.
