What is Statistics, Part Two – Survey Questionnaire Design
Presented by Dr. Mark Griffin, Chairperson of IIBA® Business Analytics Special Interest Group
It is easy to suggest a question that could be added to a survey. It is significantly more complex to design a question that is not ambiguous; that contains the same meaning for the business analyst, the interviewer, and the survey respondent; and will lead to survey responses that are accurate, reliable and reproducible. Within this webinar we will discuss some of the main features to consider when designing the survey questions and some major strategies for testing such questions prior to data collection. The examples from this webinar will be drawn from the member survey that we are currently conducting amongst members of the IIBA.
Please take the time to complete this very brief survey.
Some key features that will be discussed in this webinar include:
·
The cognitive process for the survey respondent –
comprehension, retrieval, judgement, and reporting
·
Question ambiguity
·
Vague concepts and qualifiers (eg. is the word “you”
singular or plural?)
·
Faulty presuppositions and false inferences (eg. should we
assume that all members of the IIBA are Business Analysts?)
·
Memory problems (eg. what sort of work were you doing ten
years ago?)
·
Estimating a number of events (eg. how many clients have you
spoken with in the last week?)
·
Questions about knowledge, behavior and attitude
·
Testing your survey questionnaire through piloting, expert
reviews, focus groups, cognitive interviews, and split ballots?

BizDevOps: The Rise of a Continuous, Collaborative Business
Presented by Blueprint Software Systems
DevOps is now the holy grail as CIOs seek to enable transformation by delivering business value faster. Continuous “everything” has become the mantra, and automation is key. But while many have automated the more technical aspects of DevOps, with a focus on continuous integration, deployment, release, and operations, the most important aspects – those that tie technology back to business objectives – still sit in a silo, disconnected and un-automated.
Business digitalization relies
on closing this gap. It demands a fundamental shift in the way we think about
DevOps to embed the business in a more holistic cycle of continuous innovation
focused on customer value. BizDevOps is here.
In this session, you will
learn:
·
Why BizDevOps
must supersede DevOps for business success in a digital age.
·
How a BizDevOps
delivery cycle finally aligns business and IT continuously.
·
How you can
automate BizDevOps to gain a holistic view of the entire delivery lifecycle and
clear visibility of technology-driven business outcomes to enable continuous
improvement.

Strategy: The Crucial Enabler
Presented by Adrian Reed, Principal Consultant, Blackmetric Business Solutions
The words "strategy" and "strategic" are frequently used in organizations and might be seen by some as "corporate buzzwords". Yet in reality, having a clearly articulated strategy is a crucial enabler for organizational alignment and success. As BAs, we need to ensure that our projects and programs align with strategy--else we may end up with different departments and teams pulling in different directions (and we may end up getting caught in the cross fire!)
The BA toolkit is broad, and there's a huge opportunity for us to contribute. If we seize this opportunity we may get involved in shaping or defining organizational, project, program or business unit strategy.
In this presentation, Adrian Reed explores strategy through a business analysis lens, covering:
1. What is strategy?
2. The role of strategy and strategic
thinking in Business Analysis
3. What can we do when strategy is
"cloudy"?
4. Strategic analysis tools and
techniques
