How to Find the Real Need with Socratic Questioning

Presented by Kent McDonald, Author, Speaker, Mentor

A common piece of advice is that your team should discover the true need of your project. Unfortunately advice on how to make that happen isn’t as prevalent. In this session you’ll have a chance to practice a simple technique to get to the core of what your stakeholders need that has been around for over 2000 years – Socratic questioning.

Join Kent McDonald as he walks you through a technique aimed at uncovering the (not intentionally) hidden need that your stakeholders are trying to satisfy, without asking “why?” five times in a row. Kent describes the questions, why they work and in what context they work based on his experience with IT organizations and the Agile Alliance.

Come learn about and practice this technique so you can use it back at the office to drive toward the right outcome.

Learning Outcomes:
    • Learn what socratic questioning is
    • Learn how to identify your stakeholders needs using socratic questioning
    • Determine when Socratic question is an appropriate technique to use

BA Open Mic Night

Presented by Adrian Reed, Blackmetric Business Solutions

Join us for the Business Analysis Open Mic Night -- an immersive, informal and interactive chance to discuss all things BA related (and many other things besides!).

This is not your usual webinar. In this session, webcams and microphones will be switched on, and you'll have the opportunity to 'grab the mic' and speak for up to 3 minutes on a topic of your choice. Each 3-minute slot will be followed by a chance for anyone present to discuss and debate the topic in more detail. So if you have a hot topic you'd like to discuss, why not join us?

This session will be facilitated (or should that be 'compered') by Adrian Reed.

Feel free to attend to listen, to participate or to speak -- the choice is yours. You don't need to be a BA to attend--absolutely anyone with an interest in business analysis, change or any related discipline is welcome.

Since this is an interactive and informal 'live' event it won't be recorded. Miss it, miss out :)

Hope to see you there!
