Which Agile Technique Should I Use?

Presented by Stephanie Hawkins, MSIA, CISA

Agile business analysis practitioners apply their experience and judgment in determining which agile techniques are appropriate to a given context and when to use a technique. A technique is a manner, method, or style for conducting a business analysis task or for shaping its output, according to the BABOK® v3 Guide Glossary

In this presentation, we will explore a variety of techniques in the "Agile Extension to BABOK® Guide V2" and which technique might be useful in a given context.

By participating in this discussion, you will learn technique as it relates to:

What are the three Agile planning horizons
    * How to relate contexts to techniques
    * What techniques work well for internal teams
    * What techniques work well with stakeholders external to the team

This presentation will be in American English.

Experiencing Agile Through Play

Presented by Alison (Ali) Orr Cox LEGO® Serious Play® Method Facilitator, ICAgile-Agile Coach, CBAP, AAC, PMP, PBA, SAFe Agilist, CSM, TKP, MBA, Management 3.0, ICAgile ICP

I am often asked why team members should do things like limit their WIP, or meet every day, or do retrospectives. The truth is that the Agile approach and its related practices can be hard to fully understand and embrace unless you experience them personally. For some, the first time they apply Agile is in the midst of their organization’s Agile Transformation efforts, which can be overwhelming and cause people to fall back on “the way we’ve always done it.”

I have found that when people step outside of the context of their work and instead walk through a high-level, fun simulation of Agile, it allows them to more fully grasp not only the concepts but also why the concepts are important. We use gamification because we believe games help a team experience new processes in a fun, supportive environment that enables them to understand key points in a relevant, clear, and memorable way through the 'serious play'.

From Project to Product: “Big Rock” Constraints and How to Overcome Them

Presented by Anne Steiner, Vice President, Product and Technology, Cprime

Project-based thinking and process is often the largest inhibitor of achieving agility. It explains why the notion of ‘Project to Product' has gained such popularity to the point of becoming a buzzword in recent years.

Despite the enthusiasm about becoming a product-driven organization, many companies still hang onto their old project-based ways due to some “big rock” constraints, including funding and separation of IT and business.

So, what can you do to make a successful shift?

Join Anne Steiner, Cprime’s VP of Product & Technology, to explore the challenges you may face in your
product agility journey and how to overcome them. We’ll explore:

Common constraints you may encounter when shifting from project to product and how to address them

How to shift to product-based funding models

The role of the product manager

Benefits you’ll experience with true product agility

Lean Portfolio Strategy Part 3: Epic Management - Take the Exits

Presented by Michiko Quinones and Jean Dahl

Organizations might have set up all the process steps for portfolio flow: the monthly strategic portfolio review, the portfolio kanban, even the lean business case. But, they are still not getting the idea that small, testable, constantly evaluated initiatives are what really increase your output of value to the customer and put you way ahead of the competition.

In
part 1 of this webinar we explored how signs of imitation LPM show up in an organization’s approach to strategy. In part 2, we covered how to organize around value streams with examples of successful LPM.

Now, in this third webinar in our Lean Portfolio Management series we’ll join Cprime's Michiko Quinones (Jira Align Consultant) and Jean Dahl (General Manager, Scaled Agility) to learn techniques to:

Question performing work that doesn't clearly align to your organization's strategy

Develop a process that makes things smaller and testable when it comes to initiative creation and management

Build a culture that allows work to stop if it's not going to meet its intended purpose

Make sure that you are "thinking lean," rather than just "doing lean"

Audience: Public

Date/Time: Tuesday, August 12, 2021; 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EDT

Navigating Difficult Conversations

Presented by Andrea Brockmeier, PMP, PBA, ECBA, AAC, Watermark Learning

Engaging in difficult conversations constructively is a skill that can make or break working relationships. Environments where people are able to have tough discussions in a safe, positive way are more collaborative, creative, and productive. In this presentation, explore the myths surrounding conflict and get a new perspective on how to approach those dicey discussions most of us would rather avoid. You will learn the various responses to conflict and get an opportunity to reflect on your own biases. A structured conversation approach will be illustrated that can be used to create better outcomes for everyone involved. Expect to leave with fresh perspectives about how to navigate difficult conversations often resulting from the inevitable differences we experience when working with others.
