From Project to Product: “Big Rock” Constraints and How to Overcome Them

Presented by Anne Steiner, CEO of Cprime

Project-based thinking and process is often the largest inhibitor of achieving agility. It explains why the notion of ‘Project to Product' has gained such popularity, to the point of even becoming a buzzword in recent years.

Despite the enthusiasm about becoming a product-driven organization, many companies still hang onto their old project-based ways due to some “big rock” constraints, including funding and separation of IT and business.

So, what can you do to make a successful shift?

Join Anne Steiner, CEO at Cprime, to explore the challenges you may face in your product agility journey, and how to overcome them. We’ll explore:

Common constraints you may encounter when shifting from project to product and how to address them

How to shift to product-based funding models

The role of the product manager

Benefits you’ll experience with true product agility

Context Diagrams: Your first and strongest go-to tool in your BA kit!

Presented by Ryland Leyton, CBAP

The context diagram is a key tool for use in every BA situation.  It helps us focus on problems, capabilities, solutions, and stakeholders in a way that supports a breadth-before-depth thought process that is perfect for business analysts!

In this session we will talk about how using this technique will help you fully understand the scope of your solution at the right point in the project - the beginning! - so that you can collaborate with your project team as well as your internal & external customers.  Context diagrams enable you to have powerful and collaborative conversations with your team: clarify scope boundaries with your project sponsor, scope and risk with your project manager, and technology solution issues with your technical professionals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
    • Understand the purpose and value of the context diagram technique.
    • Be able to start creating context diagrams during your BA work.
    • Apply agile analysis principles in support of this elicitation and modeling activity.
