How a Single-Focused
Approach Delivers Results
We have become a nation addicted to the enticing and dangerously
misleading drug of multitasking.
You might be hooked yourself.
The popular notion is that by doing several tasks at once we can
accomplish more — but a host of neuroscientific research shows that the
opposite is true. The fact is that your brain is simply not built to multitask.
In any situation, we're most efficient focusing on one task at a
time. But with all the information and interruptions that bombard us, how is
that possible?
In this webcast, you’ll discover how to clear and calm your mind,
arrange your schedule and environment, and gently but firmly manage the
expectations of people around you so that you can accomplish a succession of
tasks, one at a time — and be infinitely more productive and effective.
What You Will Learn

Discover tangible tools to focus your mind and harness your
potential
·
Learn why multitasking is a myth — and how to singletask your way
to success
·
Simple methods for tackling your list of "to dos" with
less effort and greater ease
·
Gain practical techniques to manage your environment - including
people around you

Business Success in the New
Economy, Critical Business Practices for the Complexity of the 21st Century
Presented by:
Kathleen B. (Kitty) Hass, Principal Consultant, Kathleen Hass & Associates,
Inc.
This presentation begins by describing the challenges posed by what
the National Academy of Sciences calls “The Gathering Storm”, the game-changing
effects on business success of three intersecting worldwide phenomena:
the integrated global economy, the proliferation of the Internet and
Information Technology, and the convergence of the digital, social and mobile
spheres. These three happenings have forever changed the way the world
economy functions, the way companies operate, the way employees work, and the
way customers behave. We look to the IBM CEO study that identified
complexity as our biggest challenge; and that creativity is the most important
skill needed in organizations today to manage complexity. Furthermore,
the 1500+ 21st century CEOs declared that they have not groomed creative
leaders throughout their organizations. We then explore two relatively
new disciplines that are emerging to capitalize on complexity to bring about
creativity and innovation for the competitive advantage of their organizations:
enterprise business analysis and complex project management.
Learning Points:
·
Innovation requires two distinct accomplishments: (1) arriving at a
novel, creative idea (the enterprise analysis functions of business analysis,)
and (2) implementing the innovation (the project management discipline).
·
Our current BA and PM maturity and competency levels are not
commensurate with the demands of 21st century complexity.
·
We need to close the capability gaps in business analysis and
complexity management if we are to maintain our position of strength in the
21st century global economy.
·
Complex project management and enterprise business analysis are
both essential for project success.

Under Pressure: Tips from an FBI Hostage Negotiation Trainer
Presented by:
Mark Goulston, Psychiatrist, Business Consultant, Executive Coach, FBI and
Police Hostage Negotiation Trainer
Much of the respect that people have for you rises or falls
according to how you act under pressure. Wouldn't you agree?
How you handle yourself in stressful situations can mean the
difference between reaching people or blowing it with them.
During this webcast, you will learn from Dr. Mark Goulston, former
FBI and police hostage negotiation trainer and author of AMACOM’s bestselling
book, Just Listen, how to both gain self-control and control of a
situation when you're under pressure. You'll learn 5 steps you can
take to keep your composure and focus when stressful circumstances arise.
What You Will Learn
You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, and if
you lose control, people will always know that part of you exists and it will
work against you. Dr. Goulston will share the 5 steps to gain control
under pressure so you become that cool, calm, and collected person that you
always wanted to be, but didn't think you could. Among the things you
will learn in this webcast are:
·
How your amygdala hijacks you to kick you off balance and how you
can foil such a hijack
·
How to talk yourself down from fear and anger to acceptance and
control
·
How to have your internal mentors talk you back into control and
how to remember what they meant to you
·
How to realize that an "ounce of anticipation" is worth a
"ton of poise"
·
How to stay on diets and exercise regimens by making a Santa's list
of who's been naughty and nice to you

Software Requirements: 7 Critical Success Factors
Presented by:
Karl E. Wiegers, Principal Consultant, Process Impact @karlwiegers
Those of us who have been writing software for a while know that if
you don’t get the requirements right, it really doesn’t matter how well you
execute the rest of the project. But eliciting, analyzing, specifying,
validating, and managing requirements is hard, and not everyone understands why
it’s so critical. This presentation describes seven critical success factors
that will go a long way toward making the requirements activities in your
organization pay off for the many project stakeholders.
The success factors
are:
·
A shared understanding of what requirements are and why we care
·
Clearly defined business objectives
·
Trained, skilled, and motivated business analysts
·
A collaborative partnership with customers
·
Rigorous and ongoing requirements prioritization
·

Mastering Difficult
Conversations
Presented by:
Casey Mitchell, Consultant at Corporate Education Group
At some point, you may need to give critical feedback to an
employee, talk to your boss about his or her behavior, deliver bad news to
someone or resolve a conflict between you and a co-worker. These kinds of
conversations can be difficult to undertake. Most of us would rather avoid them
altogether. Even when we do attempt them, we are often disappointed with the
results. We don’t say what we mean and don’t mean what we say. Issues go unresolved
and resentment and bad feelings linger.
What kind of difficult conversations are you facing? Are you dealing with them successfully?
Whether for yourself or to coach others, this webinar will help you develop the skills and techniques needed to master difficult conversations. It will help you:

The Tricky, Icky, Sticky
Stuff: How to Drive Successful Project Outcomes Using Data Modeling Techniques
Presented by
Laura Brandenburg, Founder of Clear Spring Business Analysis, LLC
Do you ever feel like everything that can go wrong does go wrong?
Do you wonder if there are special techniques to resolve tricky issues? Would
you like to be the solution for creating positive change and driving successful
project outcomes?
As a lead business analyst, I’ve realized that no project is
perfect. As a business analyst you solve tricky issues, create clarity, and
drive positive change. In this live 60-minute
webinar session, you’ll learn how to quickly resolve tricky, icky,
and sticky project challenges using a variety of business analysis techniques.
And although we’ll cover a wide range of skills, we’ll be specifically
highlighting how to use data modeling techniques without getting too technical.
We’ll cover:
·
How to clarify requirements when the business stakeholders use
industry jargon and the technology lead is wedded to an outdated database
structure, by creating a glossary, conceptually modeling the data, and facilitating
working group sessions.
·
How to use a data matrix or data definition document to clearly
communicate how a new software system should connect to a pre-existing database
structure, even if you do not know how to technically query the database.
·
How to overcome a deeply entrenched forms-based mindset and help
stakeholders envision that all necessary information could be collected more
efficiently and accurately via web-enabled technology, using interviews, data
mapping, and wireframes.
You’ll experience a real-life case study of a project that faced
all 3 of these tricky issues, and learn how I selectively applied tried and
true business analysis techniques to create successful project outcomes.
