Cindy Brady & the Art of Escalation
Presented by: Jennifer S. Battan, CBAP    @OutoftheBoxBA

In corporate America and around the globe SMEs and stakeholder’s time is stretched to a breaking point. Calendars are full, meeting rooms are unavailable, yet deadlines remain the same. Oftentimes the directive from leadership is somewhere between “deal with it” and “schedule the meeting anyway- they said they were committed to this effort.” At some point scheduling and availability of stakeholders becomes such a road block that you must escalate the impacts to the business analysis deliverables. At what point does this escalation become tattling? Does escalating impact your relationship with stakeholders? In this presentation, we’ll discuss ways you can handle, possibly avoid escalation, and hopefully not be branded as a tattle tale. In this presentation, we’ll discuss:

·         Planning and communicating to make the most of tight schedules, deadlines and SME availability
·         How to approach difficult situations and conversations
·         How to escalate gracefully; ask for assistance without becoming a tattle tale and impacting your stakeholder relationships

Case Study: Virtual Case Study Project
Presented by Cheryl Hill, PMP, Requirements Experts

What lessons would you take away after having worked on a project for years only to

have it canceled before it was ever completed?

Join us on July 22 for a case study of the Virtual Case File (VCF) project.  The VCF was a custom software application that the FBI was developing in the early 2000’s.  Unfortunately, after 4 years and a $170MM, the project was scrapped.

In this 60 minute webinar, we will tell the story of the VCF, and discuss four problems from the project that are also common to today’s projects and some recommended strategies for mitigation.

Learning Objectives

·         Understand the factors that led to the VCF's project failure

Coaching and Mentoring Fundamentals: The Bedrock skill for success in Agile
Presented by David Mantica, President, ASPE Training

A survey by Manchester Inc. found that coaching provided an average ROI of almost six times the cost. As a knowledge worker in a complex organization you have an excellent opportunity provide fellow employees with help in developing and growing their skills and knowledge. This is greatest gift you can provide to your co-workers and peers.

Mentoring and Coaching are NOT the same and shouldn’t be conducted in the same way. Mentoring helps channel guidance into self-development by giving information, ideas and guidance and letting the mentee find opportunities to test and practice. Coaching includes real-time observation and feedback on what was observed (good and constructive). The critical piece is both required a committed relationship in order to work. Within all organizations there are many misunderstandings and myths that require coaching and mentoring to clear. It is critical you gain the facts on how to properly execute both. In this session we will cover:

Learning Objectives:

·         Understand the similarity and vast differences between coaching and consulting
·         Establishing a coaching relationship using the five-step preparation process
·         Plan a coaching session
·         Identify ways to establish a mentor and a mentee relationship with others

Business Case
Presented by Venkadesh Narayanan, MBA, CBAP

A business case is the justification to decide a certain course of action in an organisation. As business analyst we always ‘recommend solutions’ to help the organisation to reach its goals and objectives. Through business case, we present a 360 degree view of a given solution to enable the management to make a decision. During this webinar, we will review the various elements of business case such as need assessment, desired outcomes, assess alternatives and recommended solution. We will also discuss the typical format of a business case document.

Learning Outcomes: The participants will be able to:

1.       Understand the technique and its purpose

2.       Gain insights on when and where to use the technique

3.       Apply the technique in their day-to-day business analysis activities

4.       Identify the software tool associated with the technique.

Discussion and Overview of new BA Certification Track from IIBA
Presented by David Mantica, President, ASPE Training

The International Institute of Business Analysis has come up with a plan to institute four levels of certification. This plan includes incorporation of the current CBAP and CCBA certifications, but there will be adjustments.

In this 45 min web seminar, learn about the plan for the four certification levels based on available information. We will discuss impacts to the CBAP and CCBA, the currently proposed time for roll out and how this new certification stack can really help stimulate the BA hiring and position growth.

This is a great session for professionals in the SDLC who are BAs or are considering becoming a BA. It will provide an opportunity to consider career options and trends. As part of this session we will discuss the impacts that Agile project methods and DevOps software deployment processes have on the BA Profession.
